What Are Section 232 Tariffs?
Updated 2026-10-01 · planning estimates
Section 232 tariffs are national-security duties on specific goods regardless of origin. They currently apply notably to steel and aluminum (50%), automobiles and parts (25%), lumber (10%) and semiconductors (25%, phased in during 2026).
Because these are layered on top of MFN and other measures, categories subject to 232 can reach high combined rates.
